My favorite time has arrived. High school baseball is finally underway. It is my first love. The pop of the glove and the crack of the bat will be heard from district to district at about four o’clock every afternoon. This time of year is what I look forward to the most. It is the one time of year that I get to play my favorite sport with my favorite people in front of my favorite fans.

It is an honor to put on the orange and white and put a little dirt on the uniform every inning. I watched my sister grow up playing softball and I watched her guy friends play baseball. I thought the day would never come that I could play high school baseball.

Now I am going on my third year. It amazes me how fast it all came. Before I know it I will be playing my last high school game and hopefully going to play college baseball. It’s a bittersweet thought.

All of my life I have been raised with a bat on my shoulder and a ball in my glove. Baseball is all I know. I’ve always been pushed and pushed to be the best player I can be. I have had the best people by my side to help me and I have had the best teammates to support me.

I have learned that this is a game that can’t be played just to play. If you want to succeed you must play for the love of the game. Through my years of playing I have grown so close to the game that I can’t imagine my life without it. From the back yard and plastic balls to the batting cage and a wood bat it has never left my side. Baseball is my first love.
